Honors Convocation – May 9

The University will bestow honors on high-achieving graduating seniors during its 2015 Honors Convocation, Saturday, May 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the John Spoor Broome Library Plaza. The ceremony is open to all students earning honors and graduating from fall 2014 through summer 2015. To receive honors at graduation, a student must have completed a minimum of 30 units at CI for a letter grade and earned a grade point average of 3.50 or above in all CI and transfer coursework. Graduates may receive honors at one of the following three levels: cum laude for GPAs of 3.50 – 3.74; magna cum laude for GPAs of 3.75 – 3.89; and summa cum laude for GPAs of 3.90 – 4.0. CI will also recognize outstanding students in each major with Program Honors, and acknowledges students with achievements in the areas of community engagement and integrative, multicultural, and international perspectives with Mission Center Awards. Graduating students who are President’s Scholars or members of the Mortar Board Four Pillars Chapter, the nation’s premier honor society, will also be recognized during the event. Commencement – May 16

Approximately 2,000 students are eligible to receive degrees and credentials at this year’s commencement ceremonies to be held on Saturday, May 16 at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Commencement is a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand the pride and joy seen on the faces of graduating students and their families. During the morning ceremony, William “Bill” Kearney will receive an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters (L.H.D.). During the afternoon ceremony, Gary Cushing ’10 will receive CI’s Distinguished Alumnus Award for his success and generosity in a number of different arenas. The campus community is also invited to attend the Commencement rehearsal on Friday, May 15 at 1 p.m. at the South Quad. Science Graduates Reception – May 16

The faculty and staff of the science programs at CI invite all science graduates to the 11th annual Science Graduates Reception immediately following commencement on May 16 in the Science Atrium (Aliso Hall) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This is your chance to meet up with fellow graduates, instructors, and support staff right after the ceremony, as well as an opportunity for us to congratulate you and meet your guests.

Participants Needed for Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run – June 11

CI’s Police Department will be participating in the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run on Thursday, June 11 from 12 to 3 p.m. and is looking to recruit participants from the campus community. Officers and representatives from local, county, state, federal, and military agencies will carry the "Flame of Hope" throughout Southern California in May and June as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. More than 4,000 officers and Special Olympics athletes will proudly run 1,500 miles through 200 communities with the torch to raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics Southern California.CI is scheduled to receive the symbolic Special Olympics Torch from Naval Base Ventura County participants at Mugu Rock and hand off again to Ventura County Sheriff's Deputies near the Sycamore Canyon campground. CI’s running segment along the Pacific Coast Highway will be approximately 3 miles long at a relatively easy pace. Those wishing to participate can run 1, 2, or all 3 miles of the very scenic route. Runners, casual joggers and/or speed walkers are all encouraged to participate as well as follow-van drivers and volunteers to help represent CI at this worthwhile event. T-shirts will be provided to all who participate on behalf of CI. Those interested in participating should provide their t-shirt size and contact Arnie Camp from CI’s Police Department no later than Friday, May 15 at arnie.camp@csuci.edu.
