Welcome Week events

For the first time, the Residence Hall Association (RHA), Student Programming Board (SPB), and New Student Orientation and Transition Programs have collaborated on the planning of Welcome Week, a great opportunity for new, transfer and returning students to get acquainted to the campus, meet new people and have fun.

Events include the American Red Cross Blood Drive, a Counseling and Psychological Services open house, and the Student Service Summit. Additionally, we are hosting a T-shirt exchange, where students can donate an old high school or community college tee in exchange for a new “I (heart) CI” shirt. The collected shirts will be donated to Out of the Closet, who donates all profits of the organization to the Aids Healthcare Foundation.

On Aug. 31, from 6-7 p.m., Kevin Allred, a feminist author and educator, will speak on campus about class, race, gender, and sexual politics through the music and career of Beyoncé. Students will learn about intersectional feminism through an easy to understand medium. Student leaders are invited to a free lunch in the Anacapa Village pool courtyard with Allred to talk more in-depth about intersectionality, and Beyonce.
