If you’re looking to move your career—and your life—forward, but aren’t interested in pursuing a degree, these programs at California State University Channel Islands (CI) are for you. These programs are offered primarily through CI’s Extended University. Because student fees—not state fees—fund Extended University, we have more flexibility to create programs and offer locations that meet the needs of busy adults like you.

Certificate Programs

  • Business Administration—for anyone who wishes to advance their career and satisfy the prerequisites for our MBA program.
    Location: Thousand Oaks campus.

  • Chemistry—this is the equivalent of earning a chemistry minor.
    Location: Main campus, Camarillo.

  • Digital Media Art—prepares you for an entry-level career in this growing field.
    Location: Main campus, Camarillo.

  • Guitar—prepares you for a career as a professional guitarist working in a diverse range of musical styles, and culminates with a recital/lecture or a CD recording project in their senior year.

  • Pest Control Adviser— prepares you to become a licensed professional consultant serving California's agriculture and horticulture producers. 
    Location: Main campus, Camarillo.

  • SHRM Essentials of HR Management—perfect for HR professionals or small business owners interested in protecting themselves from litigation.
    Location: Thousand Oaks campus.

  • SHRM PHR/SPHR Certification Prep Course—offered in cooperation with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Learning System®, this course provides in-depth study of key human resource management areas and professional development opportunities.

  • Social Business—similar to CI’s Social Business minor, but fewer required electives.
    Location: Main campus, Camarillo.

  • Spanish Translation—prepares you to translate general, specialized and literary texts from English to Spanish and vice-versa.

  • Technical Writing—for anyone interested in learning this highly marketable skill.
    Location: Main campus, Camarillo.

Credential Programs

  • Teacher Credential—for future teachers pursuing a single subject, multiple subject or special education credential.

  • Administrative Credential—prepares future educators for educational leadership roles in public schools.

Other Non-Degree Programs

  • Open Universitynon-CI students can enroll in undergraduate credit courses on a space-available basis, subject to the approval of the instructor.
