Camarillo, Calif., March 26, 2014 – Leading economist Dr. Sung Won Sohn of the Institute for Global Economic Research (IGER) at CSU Channel Islands(CI) will present “Turbulence in the Global Economy and Investment Implications,” on Friday, April 11, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the Garvin Theatre at Santa Barbara City College, 721 Cliff Drive, in Santa Barbara.  The event is free to the public and includes breakfast.  Guests should register online before April 4 at https://csuci.wufoo.com/forms/iger-event-s80oea0gr75g6/.

"Your jobs and nest eggs depend on how well the economy functions,” Sohn said.  “In this globalized world, what happens in Washington as well as Beijing matters.  I will cover the global economy, including the U.S. economy and the Pacific Rim countries, and conclude with investment implications in the financial markets."

Sohn is Director of IGER and an endowed professor at the Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics.  IGER is the first institute of its kind in the region, working to closely link the local economy to the global economy, promote trade between the region and the Pacific Rim countries, and develop future industry leadership by providing international perspectives to students and the community.

Sohn is consistently rated one of the world’s top economic forecasters by The Wall Street Journal, Time magazine and Bloomberg News, among others.  He has served as a senior economic advisor to the White House, President and CEO of Hanmi Bank, and Chief Economic Officer and Executive Vice President of Wells Fargo Banks.  He also serves on numerous boards, including positions as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for national retailer Forever 21 and as Trustee at Claremont Graduate University.
