Student Art Show

Camarillo, Calif., April 14, 2016 — The galleries in Napa Hall at CSU Channel Islands (CI) are filled with paintings, drawings, digital art, video art, sculpture and ceramics  from now through May 13 for the annual CSU Channel Islands Student Art Exhibit.

More than 300 students contributed more than 1,000 pieces of two- and three-dimensional artwork to this year’s show, which Art Lecturer Christophe Bourély describes as “very professional,” adding: “These students are really prepared for a career in the arts.”

Bourély says he expects hundreds for the reception, which is from 3 to 6 p.m. in Napa Hall on Saturday, April 23. There will be a buffet as well as Power Point presentations from Art History students, who also contributed work to the show.

The Art History students will give spectators a glimpse into how art has captured the human experience from prehistoric to modern times.

“Art is the soul of our present and past civilizations,” Bourély said “Very often it is the only thing that seems to survive the test of time.”

Napa’s main gallery features the best pieces, which are imaginative and varied, including everything from a yarn dragon to a box of intravenous candy, liquor and condiments to a woman made of books and magazines.

The Art and Art History instructors chose the three best pieces from each student in their upper division classes, making for an eye-catching balance of two- and three-dimensional artwork throughout the main gallery and halls of Napa Hall.

Limited parking is available on campus with the purchase of a $6 daily permit; follow signs to the parking permit dispensers. Free parking is available at the Camarillo Metrolink Station/Lewis Road with bus service to and from the campus.  Riders should board the CI Vista Bus to the campus; the cash-only fare is $1.25 each way.
