April 21, 2023 — The Institute of International Education awarded CSUCI a $4,125 grant that will enable up to 25 students to obtain a U.S. passport.

In the third year of the IIE American Passport Project, IIE made awards to 48 institutions, which will help up to 1,200 Pell Grant-eligible U.S. students. Removing the initial financial barrier of a passport helps to increase the diversity and inclusion of students studying abroad. IIE aims to provide 10,000 students with passports by the end of the decade. The program prioritizes first-year students with limited financial means, for whom this may be their first passport.

CSUCI and other institutions receiving awards will couple the funding with outreach, advising, programming and additional support for the students they identify for the program. The University’s High Impact Practices & Experiential Education team plans to promote this opportunity to eligible students in the Learning Communities program in fall.

IIE is a not-for-profit organization that works with governments, policymakers, educators and employers across the globe to prepare students and professionals for the global workforce and equip them to solve the increasingly complex challenges facing the interconnected world.
