July 25 through August 12, 2016, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Get a jump on your first year of college!

Improve your learning skills and math readiness in a low-stress supportive and fun environment. Activities include field trips, a focus on scientific questioning, writing and math workshops, academic and financial aid advising, and an introduction to many student services available at CSU Channel Islands.

Waives the Early Start Math Requirement!

If you did not receive a passing score on the ELM Placement Exam, then you are required to participate in the Early Start Math Program. The FREE Summer Scholars Institute waives you of having to take an Early Start Math class and pay tuition for this class over the summer.

Eligibility Requirements:

  •  Incoming first-year CI student
  •  Majoring or considering major in Science or Mathematics
  •  Commitment to attend full institute
  •  Ability to work well in groups

Apply for the 2016 Summer Scholars Institute

Cost

There is no cost! Students must commit to attending the full three-week institute.

Housing

Funding available for 15 out-of-county students.  Priority will be given to those who exhibit financial need.

RISE Learning Communities

Students who are participating in the Summer Scholars Institute will get priority in enrolling in the Retaining, Inspiring, Supporting, and Engaging (RISE) Students in STEM learning communities. If you are majoring in Biology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science and Resource Management, you may be interested in the Introductory Chemistry or General Chemistry Learning Communities. Students who need to take MATH 95 Intermediate Algebra in Fall 2015 may be interested in two learning communities that include this class.
