HLI Internship Program (FAQ)
What students are eligible?
Students from any major are eligible for this program, provided they have junior or senior standing in the semester of their internship, and provided they have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students selected for the program are paid for their internship at the rate of $12 per hour and expected to work a maximum of 120 hours.
Who may write a letter of recommendation for a student?
Students may obtain a letter of recommendation from faculty members, staff, administrators, or prior employer supervisors.
What type of student would benefit from this experience?
Students who could benefit from a real-world internship experience in their field and practical experience in a professional setting. Applicants should demonstrate self-initiative, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn.
When do applications close for each cycle?
Interested applicants should complete the online application by April 4, 2014.
How many students are generally selected each semester?
Generally, 12-15 interns dependent on the budget allowance.
How are students placed in their internship site?
We try to work with each HLI student's interests and talents as expressed in their application to to place students in city and county government, businesses and area non-profits.
