To Nominate a Student for the HLI Internship Program (FAQ)

What students are eligible?

Students from any major are eligible for this program, provided they have junior or senior standing in the semester of their internship, and provided they have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or above. Students selected for the program are paid for their internship at the rate of $12 per hour and expected to work a maximum of 120 hours.

Who may nominate a student?

Students may be nominated by faculty members, by university staff, or by university administrators. Once a student is nominated and deemed eligible for the program, the student will be asked to complete an application form.

What type of student would benefit from this experience?

Students who could benefit from a real-world internship experience in their field and practical experience in a professional setting. Nominees should demonstrate self-initiative, strong communication skills, and a willingness to learn.

How many students may I nominate?

You may nominate as many students that you deem competitive for the program. You will need to submit a separate form for each student.

When do nominations close for each cycle?

Nominations for the fall 2013 cycle close on April 19, 2013.

How many students are generally selected each term?

Generally, 12-15 interns dependent on the budget allowance.

How are students placed in their internship site?

We try to work with each HLI student's interests and talents as expressed in their application to to place students in city and county government, businesses and area non-profits.
