News and Events

The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) had a very busy year. Some of the Center accomplishments included:
 * completing the CCE's  five year strategic plan,
 * engaging the campus and local community in dialogue through the Coffeehouse Series,
 * collaborating with the other Centers to revise University 110 to integrate the mission, and;
 * partnering with the Smithsonian on the Bracero Oral History project.

Service learning has gained momentum on campus. In 07-08 forty-four courses with a service learning component were offered. Opportunities were provided within general education and in courses that are a requirement of the degree program. Many of the service learning courses were offered in more than one section and the activities allowed our students to serve locally, nationally and internationally.

A majority of the students surveyed about their service learning experience reported that service learning enhanced their course content, they learn better when course content is applied to real life experiences, and that service learning showed them how to become more involved in their community.
