Following a decade of faculty-led advocacy to diversify the faculty at CSUCI, on July 15, 2020, California State University Channel’s statement on “Racial Justice – a Commitment to Action” included a commitment to “implement a cluster hiring of three educators into tenure-track positions with a demonstrated record of success in teaching, research, and/or service with anti-racism and Black/African American populations.” A Cluster Hire Taskforce in Fall 2020 was charged with laying the foundations not only for successful hiring, but also for our new colleagues to thrive upon their arrival and to move successfully and with adequate support through the RTP process.

In consultation with CSUCI’s Black faculty, the Task Force determined that the three hires should move forward simultaneously; that candidates must demonstrate a strong link to anti-racist/anti-discrimination issues as relevant to Black lives and Black lived experience; and that candidates must demonstrate a desire to be an active part of the Black student and community on campus. Positions will be open rank, and we particularly invite applications from candidates with Black lived experience.

The Cluster Hire will draw from a search including the following disciplines:

  • Africana Studies
  • Anthropology
  • Chemistry
  • Chicana/o Studies
  • Health Sciences
  • Performing Arts
  • Political Science
  • Psychology
