What are scholarships?

Scholarships are a type of financial aid that doesn’t need to be repaid. They can offset the cost of attendance—and reduce your reliance on student loans. These scholarships can:  

• cover full or partial costs associated with college
• come directly from a school, donor, or other organization

Scholarships come in many forms, and you may be eligible for more of them than you think! Some are based on GPA and academic achievement, and plenty focus on special interests, skills and talents. Others may align with your personal identity and background.

When you apply to Cal State Channel Islands, you’re automatically considered for a variety of school-based aid if you also submit the general scholarship application.

Why apply for scholarships?

In addition to financial assistance, the process of applying is rewarding itself. As you write your essay and ask for letters of recommendation, you will: 

• Boost your confidence by thinking about all you have accomplished—and what you have yet to achieve
• Connect with teachers, coaches, supervisors and other mentors
• Practice your writing and communication skills 

Perhaps the best reason to apply for a scholarship? You can’t get one unless you apply! 

Receiving your scholarship

If you’ve received a scholarship from your high school, a community group or any other organization, you should have your funds sent to:

We will disburse all outside scholarship funds directly to your student account based on the donor’s instructions.
