The BFSA was originally founded in 2013 by Dr. Wm. Gregory Sawyer, Dr. Virgil Adams, Mr. Jon Brooks, Mr. Carrick DeHart, Ms. Laurita Franklin, and Mr. Darius Riggins. The BFSA was created with the intention to develop a system of advocacy for employees of African descent, and to bring African/African American Historical and cultural activities to the Channel Islands campus.
Our Mission: Placing faculty, staff, and students at the center of their educational and professional experience, the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) of California State University Channel Islands (CI) supports the recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of Black students while encouraging cultural education, learning, and leadership experiences through community engagement.
Our Vision: To encourage and support Black faculty, staff, and students who wish to develop and fulfill the highest levels of their personal and professional potential.
