What is the California Promise Program?

The California Promise Program (Senate Bill 412) required for the California State University to offer pledge programs that will support entering students interested in completing their baccalaureate degrees in four years and students with Associate Degrees for Transfer in completing their remaining requirements for baccalaureate degrees in two years.

What programs are available to me?

Upper Division Transfer Students who possess an Associate’s Degree in Transfer in the below majors can apply for the CA Promise Program Two-Year Pledge Program. 

  • Anthropology
  • History
  • Political Science
  • Sociology
  • Spanish

What are the benefits?

Students who participate in the CA Promise Program will graduate in a specific amount of time (4 years for first time freshmen and 2 years for transfer students possessing an Associate Degree in Transfer). In addition, participants will benefit from:

  • Early registration appointments within their academic level.
  • Priority academic advising appointments
  • Specialized academic advising tailored to the student. Student will develop an academic plan along with the CA Promise advisor.
  • Informational meetings every semester
  • Workshops to promote academic and professional development
  • Be part of an online community
  • Distinguished California Promise stole at graduation

Who is eligible?

Applicants who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply:

  • Admitted upper division transfer students who have been awarded an Associate Degree in Transfer (ADT) in the approved majors listed above.
  • Students who have met the California Residency requirements.
  • Students who have at least a 2.25 GPA upon transferring to CSUCI.

*Candidates are selected based on their ability to be successful in completion of the program.*

How do I maintain my enrollment in the CA Promise Program?

Students who are selected for the California Promise Program are required to complete the following every academic year:

  • Complete a minimum of 30 units each academic year (including summer session) applicable to ensure graduation in two years (for Transfer students). Transfer students who transferred 70 units, may enroll in 12-15 units each semester, if they remain on track to graduate within two years.
  • Maintain at least a minimum 2.0 grade point average in all academic work completed (campus, overall & major).
  • Attend the first meeting as scheduled by the Coordinator of Graduation Initiatives and Graduation Advisor.
  • Meet on a semester basis with the Coordinator of Graduation Initiatives or Graduation Advisor to develop and maintain an academic plan.
  • Enroll in classes during the established early registration period and pay fees by the required deadlines.

How do I sign up?

New Applicants will indicate on their Cal State Apply Application their interest. If you are eligible, you will receive an invitation to join the program. To participate, you will need to return the pledge form by the date specified on the invitation.

What are the deadlines necessary for the program?

November 30th: To participate in the Fall semester.
August 31st: To participate in the Spring semester.
