Types of Positions to Recruit for:

Paid Positions (Part-Time, Full-Time, Paid Internships)
Description: Paid positions are those jobs where the employee holds explicit or implicit employment contracts which give them a basic renumeration which is not direclty dependent upon the revenue of the unit for which they work.

Job descriptions typically include information about the hiring organization/department, a list of tasks/responsibilities of the role, a list of required and/or desired qualifications, the start date, and the salary.

For all internships, the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE) defines internships as "a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting. Internships give students the opportunity to gain valuable applied experience and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths; and give employers the opportunity to guide and evaluate talent."

Academic-Credit Internships
Description: Academic-Credit internships with CSUCI students are typically an enhancement of classroom learning by integrating academic curriculum and real-world experience to improve the student's critical thinking, problem-solving, and retention of concepts. These types of internships provide an opportunity for students to see if a particular career path or field of study is right for them and hone their skills. The teaching faculty and on-site supervisors share in the educational process. An academic credit internship must include a signed agreement and identified mentor at the internship site.

Unpaid Internships
Description
Unpaid internships differ from volunteer work in that they are an educational experience where the student has mentorship and learning opportunities related to thier major field of studies. The U.S. Department of Labor has specific regulations governing unpaid internships.

Campus/Work-Study
Description: The Work-Study Program (WSP) encourages the part-time employment of CSUCI's undergraduate and graduate students. Their earnings help them to defray the cost of their education. To the maximum extent practicable, FWSP positions should complement and reinforce a recipient's academic and/or career goals, serve the public interest and, whenever possible, directly involve the recipient in community service activities.

Visit the Office of Financial Aid website for more information on Work-Study.

Domestic Remote/Virtual Positions
Description: Domestic Remote/Virtual positions are jobs and internships that can be performed outside of an employer's office.  These positions ideally should be paid, and provide employees with the appropriate technology to perform their roles.  It should be made clear to any interested candidates that these positions do not take place in a physical workspace.
