Aug. 20, 2023

Dear Campus Community,

We are excited for the new academic year and look forward to welcoming everyone to the start of the Fall 2023 semester at CSU Channel Islands. Please take a moment to read important updates below.

Weather Update
CSUCI will be open and classes will be held as scheduled on Monday, August 21.

According to the National Weather Service and Ventura County’s Office of Emergency Services, with whom we have been consulting regularly, the storm is tracking farther east of Ventura County than originally forecasted which should significantly lessen local impact. However, if you are driving to campus from another region, please check the Caltrans website for any possible road closures and give yourself plenty of extra time to drive safely. Students and employees with weather-related travel issues should contact their professors or supervisor accordingly.

Parking & Campus Access
As campus infrastructure improvements continue for Gateway Hall, some important updates regarding campus parking and roadways are included below. A campus map with roadways and parking lots identified is available.

Access to the A4 and A11 parking lots on Ventura Street (in front and behind El Dorado Hall) is currently limited, and we strongly recommend that students park in the large A3 lot located beside University Drive, just before entering the campus proper. For employees and students who want to park in the A4 or A11 lots, it will be much easier to access those lots from the Potrero Road entrance rather than from University Drive since a right turn off University Drive is blocked off due to exciting Gateway Hall construction underway.

Keep in mind if the El Dorado parking lots are full, drivers will either need to circle back and loop around the entire campus to get to the A3 parking lot or exit the campus onto Potrero Road and take Lewis Road to University Drive to get back to the front of the campus. There is currently no direct route from the A4 and A11 parking lots to University Drive.

Also, please note that temporary stop signs have been placed near Santa Paula and Camarillo Streets (near Santa Rosa Village) on the southeast end of the campus due to increased vehicles circling back around the campus. Please drive slowly and carefully through the area.

Camarillo Street
Beginning Thursday, August 24, access along Camarillo Street between Lewis Road and Channel Islands Drive (entrance to the new Anacapa Canyon housing) may be reduced to a single lane with flag-persons controlling traffic (stop or slow). This is due to a Southern California Edison project of bringing power to Phase II of University Glen, unfortunately delayed due to unforeseen circumstances from its initial timeline in July.

Workers with flags will be directing traffic near the impacted area and we ask that you please slow down and drive carefully on this road. It’s anticipated that this construction will be completed within the next two to three weeks. We strongly recommend that drivers access the campus from University Drive or Potrero Road during this timeframe to avoid delays in reaching the campus.

Please continue to monitor campus emails and/or text messages for additional updates. If you haven’t already enabled your mobile device to receive text alerts from our CSUCI Alert system, we encourage you to do so or to verify your contact information by visiting our Emergency Information webpage.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to make campus improvements.

All the best to everyone for an inspiring, wonderfully challenging, and rewarding Fall semester.
