It is best to apply for the on-campus housing.

Please make sure to apply for the on-campus housing as it is very difficult to commute to campus via public transportation especially in evenings and weekends if you don't have your own car. If you have your own car, it should be easy to commute to the campus while living in Camarillo or nearby cities. However, if you decide to live off-campus and don't have your own car, please know that the public transportation may not be available, and using taxis and uber may be very expensive. We strongly recommend that you apply for on-campus housing as soon as possible especially if you are coming to the US to study for the first time.

Off-Campus Housing Options

Please consider applying for the on-campus housing when you join the first semester as it is very difficult to commute to campus without having your own car. The public transportation is very limited in Camarillo and Ventura County especially in evenings and weekends, also on Friday evenings. As communicated at Pre-Departure Orientation, you might need to reserve a taxi or a ride share service such as Uber and Lyft. This may cost you $40-$50 each way from the campus to off campus apartments in Camarillo. Please make sure to secure your transportation before you rent an off-campus housing. If you choose to find off-campus housing please be aware that you may need to purchase furniture to furnish your bedroom and possible whole apartment. Some places also ask for you to pay rent up front for the time you stay there, or at least pay for first and last months rent. Please be informed that it is your responsibility to find and pay for the transportation to commute to the campus for all of your classes.

Home stay Programs*

Another option for off campus housing is through a home stay program, this is where a student is matched with a family for housing and possibly some meals. The following companies help match students with potential host families. CI does not endorse any homestay organization or company. Here is a list of homestay organizations that have experience serving international students. To apply, please visit one of the web pages listed here:

Student Room Stay

Off-Campus Housing at University Auxiliary Services, Inc.*

Another option to housing on campus is University Glen. Students may apply directly to the University Glen Apartments if they wish. To apply, please visit the University Glen Rental website.

Marriott Residence Inn*

If you would prefer to live off campus, you may contact the Marriott Residence Inn of Camarillo to apply for housing there. Their website/contact information can be found here.

Please note that this housing option is off campus and is only recommended for those who have a way of getting to and from campus through their own mode of transportation. The bus station is a 5 minute walk from this location and is a convenient and affordable way of getting to campus.

*Please note that these three housing options are run through private companies and they do not provide services on behalf of the university. Before signing a lease, read it carefully and be sure to understand all of its obligations. You will be responsible for adhering to the rules and regulations listed in their housing contracts and all issues must be handled with them directly.

What to do if you move to a new address:

If you change your address, you have 10 days to report your new address to the International Programs Office at international@csuci.edu, so that the Designated School Official can enter your new address in SEVIS.  We strongly encourage you update your address through MyCI.  However, updating your address through MyCI itself does not meet the requirement by SEVIS.  You must remember to notify the International Programs Office within 10 days.
