Program Details

  • Students can participate in exchange for the spring semester or the full academic year. Fall-only study abroad is not available.
  • Here are some highlights of the exchange program:

Available Terms Abroad

  • Spring Semester: late March to early August
    • Deadline to Apply: August 15
  • Academic Year: early September to early August (break during February and March)
    • Deadline to Apply: January 15

Eligibility

  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing while abroad.
  • Current CSUCI student in good academic standing at time of application.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (students with below a 2.75 GPA should contact the Study Abroad Advisor at courtney.gross@csuci.edu for guidance).
  • No Japanese language skills required, although students are encouraged to take a Japanese language course abroad.

To Apply

Students must complete a CSUCI Exchange Application first. If selected as an exchange nominee, students will then be directed to complete Toyo's exchange application.

Housing

On campus accommodation is in the AI-House HUB-4. AI-House HUB-4 is a new international residence that opened in March 2022. It accommodates 292 residents, half of them being domestic students and the other half being international students. Resident Assistants (RAs) live in the AI-House HUB-4and help residents with various aspects of dorm life in addition to holding educational and cultural events. Location

Toyo University’s main campus – the Hakusan Campus – is located in central Tokyo only a 10-minute walk to the closest railway station and just a few subway stops way from many of Tokyo’s most iconic areas including Shibuya, Akihabara, Ikebukuro, and Shinjuku. The Hakusan Campus blends nature and modern architecture in an atmosphere conducive for learning.

Tokyo itself is an ideal study abroad location. As a global metropolis renowned for technological advancements, arts, and culture, Tokyo offers an unmatched opportunity for academic enrichment and personal growth. Beyond the classroom, Tokyo's vibrant streets pulsate with life, offering a rich tapestry of experiences, from ancient temples and shrines to bustling neighborhoods filled with innovative technology, fashion, and entertainment. The city's exceptional public transportation system allows students to explore the many surrounding districts.
