Nov. 20, 2025 – The California State University (CSU) system released its Economic Impact Report highlighting the significant role the CSU and Cal State Channel Islands (CSUCI) play in driving regional economic vitality, strengthening California’s key industries and preparing a skilled workforce essential to California’s economy. Gateway Hall

The report, Moving California Forward: The Economic Power of the CSU, highlights the lasting return on investment for the people of California at every level:

  • Economic Return: For every dollar the state invested in the CSU, $7.69 was generated in statewide industry activity, increasing to $35.53 when including alumni earnings across California.
  • Statewide Impact: The CSU supported a total of 210,800 jobs across California with an overall statewide impact of $31.6 billion. The overall impact of Cal State Channel Islands within California is $505.8 million in industry activity and $36.6 million in state and local tax revenue.
  • Regional Reach: As part of the Central Coast region, CSUCI helped generate a substantial economic impact across the area, supporting a total of 4,500 jobs and an overall impact of $446 million in industry activity underscoring the campus’ vital role in the regional economic vitality.

“These findings underscore just how deeply Cal State Channel Islands is embedded in the economic and social fabric of Ventura County and the Central Coast,” said Sue Andrzejewski, Interim President of Cal State Channel Islands. “Our graduates do not just earn degrees, they launch careers, strengthen industries, and bring real-world impact to the region. The impact reflected in this report is a powerful affirmation of our mission: to be a place where academic excellence meets opportunity, fueling economic mobility, and strengthening the communities we serve.” 

  • Workforce Power: Nearly half of all bachelor’s degrees in California are awarded by the CSU in disciplines directly tied to California’s evolving workforce needs. Within the Central Coast region which includes Ventura County, local industry such as agriculture, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, advanced technologies, oil production, and a military presence, ensures students are trained for in-demand jobs in their communities and are supporting local economies.
  • Alumni Impact: Cal State Channel Islands alumni had higher media income attributed to their CSU degrees, totaling $573.6 million which supported statewide impacts of 3,400 jobs, $245 million wages earned, $722.3 million in industry activity and $56.4 million in state and local tax revenue.
