Jan. 23, 2023 — CSU Sacramento has awarded $35,000 in continued funding to the CSU Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (CSU-LSAMP) project at CSUCI.

Under the leadership of Assistant Professor of Biology Caryl Ann Becerra, who serves as Faculty Director, the 2018-2023 CSU-LSAMP project is providing professional development and research opportunities to students to help them advance to graduate programs and professional careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The statewide program provides support to STEM students who have faced social, educational or economic barriers. At CSUCI, the program is focused on juniors and seniors. Fellows can be reimbursed for science textbooks and receive grants for research materials and travel costs to present at conferences. Participants visit graduate schools and hear from STEM professionals at workshops and seminars.
