One of our most frequently received requests is to partner with programs and cross-divisional units on projects. Often, these involve working with a team outside of our unit to build a teaching/learning experience for students or faculty through the use of Canvas. Occasionally, a unit has funding and seeks to ‘hire’ TLi to independently design and build a product for them (e.g., a student orientation; a professional learning program or workshop). Recognizing the impact of intentional, effective design, these projects often have ambitious goals, such as reducing equity gaps or DFW rates, for example.

To do them effectively, partnership projects require a significant investment of time and resources across every subset of TLi, but particularly from the Learning Design Lead who oversees all LD projects, even for those projects that seem small or straightforward. They also tend to require a long-term commitment, even after the initial project build has been completed and launched.

Current projects & partnerships

  • Embedded Peer Educator Collaborative (EPEC), a multi-year partnership with the Learning  Resource Center to prepare faculty for teaching quantitative courses with an embedded peer educator. EPEC is funded, in part, by a generous gift from Jeff Green.
  • Equity Inquiry Project (EIP), a 5-year partnership with Student Academic Success and Equity Initiatives (SASEI) to support faculty fellows in adopting an equity inquiry research process to examine their teaching as a site for inquiry. EIP is funded by a Channel Your Success HSI grant.
  • Writing & Multiliteracy Center ‘flipped’ workshops, which leverage Canvas, PlayPosit interactive video, and badging to offer writing and multiliteracy workshops to students. Faculty can import the assignment instructions into their Canvas courses, then students complete the workshop and submit their badge as evidence of completion. This work is currently funded internally.
  • Mixed and Virtual Reality, a multi-year project for CSUCI’s School of Education and School of Nursing. Each project simulates an immersive experience related to relevant case studies in their respective fields.

Key Information

  • For TLi, anything that takes more than the equivalent of one workday (8-10 cumulative hours) to complete is considered a project.
  • We wish we could accommodate every request that comes our way, but our current reality is that we need to be selective in the projects we take on so that we can fully contribute to the success of each project.
  • When we are unable to partner on a project, we are happy to refer you to one of our external partners who have been established as vendors.
  • Projects take time, planning, and accountability for meeting milestones along the way.
    • Please factor professional learning and collaborator workload into your project planning.
    • TLi reserves the right to rescind participation in a project if collaborators do not meet critical milestones.
    • Recommended lead time is 1-2 full academic terms of development before anticipated project launch.
  • Projects are a collaborative effort between professionals with valuable expertise in their respective fields.
