CSU Channel Islands mission is to promote, foster, develop, and educate future leaders
of character and to prepare cadets to become United States Air Force or Army Officers.
Though CSU Channel Islands does not have an ROTC program on campus we do have crosstown agreements with the Army and Air Force ROTC programs. We have an agreement with the Army ROTC with UC Santa Santa Barbara and for the Air Force ROTC with UCLA.
What is Army or Air Force ROTC? ROTC stands for Reserve Officer Training Corps. It is a college-based curriculum program that trains students to become commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army or Air Force, full-time or part-time in the U.S. Army Reserve, Army National Guard, Air Force Reserve, or Air National Guard, while also pursuing a career. Some key features are you attend regular college courses at CSUCI and your ROTC courses at either UC Santa Barbara for Army ROTC or UCLA for Air Force ROTC. Other features are strong on leadership, military skills, management, and physical fitness. Upon graduating there is a service commitment of usually 4 years active duty or there is a guard or reserve option.
