Fall 2023: Mock Site Visit and editing of the institutional report.

Spring 2024: Institutional Report sent to WSCUC and Site Visit

What is WSCUC?

The Western Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), formerly known as “WASC,” is the accrediting agency that aids institutions in developing and sustaining effective educational programs, while assuring the community that the accredited institution has met the high standards of quality and effectiveness.

What is TPR?

Thematic Pathway for Reaffirmation (TPR) is a streamlined, alternate pathway for reaffirmation for eligible institutions that demonstrate consistent evidence of a healthy fiscal condition, strong student achievement indicators, and sustained quality performance.

What has been accomplished so far since Fall 2021?

A Thematic Pathway for Reaffirmation (TPR) Advisory Committee was formed and conducted its work to draft and submit CSUCI’s TPR proposal on May 1, 2022. The members of this committee[1] included:

  • Dennis Downey, Interim Associate Vice President for Academic Planning and Continuous Improvement
  • Marie Francois, University Experience Program Director
  • Ernesto Guerrero, Interim Special Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Colleen Harris, Head of Instruction, Engagement & Assessment
  • Kristin Jordan, Data Scientist in Academic Planning
  • Jessica Lavariega Monforti (Committee Chair), Vice Provost
  • Julia Levi, Donor Relations & Outreach Engagement Specialist
  • Aurora Rugeiro, Student Representative
  • Elizabeth Sowers, Program Review Associate Professor - Sociology

Campus Input into the TPR Proposal

  • CSUCI-wide survey distributed to all students, faculty, staff and administrators in Fall 2021 with quantitative and qualitative data;
  • 8 focus groups with students, faculty, staff and administrators participated in Spring 2022 focused on narrowing the focus of survey results;
  • 2 padlets distributed to faculty and students that included focus group questions;
  • Meetings of the advisory committee, which includes representation from students, faculty, staff and administrator stakeholder groups;
  • Survey, focus groups, and padlet information shared via email and through Academic Senate announcements/updates.
  • Theme/priorities presented to the President’s Cabinet, the Academic Affairs Council, Senate Executive Committee, CI Staff Council, and student government, along with forums for faculty, staff, and students in April 2022.

Theme Selected and Submitted to WSCUC

The unifying theme that was selected and submitted to WSCUC is: Brechas por cerrar, escaleras por construir/Closing Gaps, Building Ladders. This unifying theme has three priority areas, as outlined in the chart below.

What will be accomplished in Fall 2022?

  • The Reaffirmation Steering Committee (RSC) will be announced, and a kick-off meeting will be held. RSC workgroups will be formed.
  • WSCUC will conduct an TPR orientation for the RSC.
  • Select an editor(s) for the Institutional Report.
  • Data collection and assessment for the draft Institutional Report will begin.
  • Workgroup Leaders will begin drafting the sections of the Institutional Report.
