International Graduate Admission Requirements
Applicants who meet the minimum admission requirements will be reviewed by the graduate admission committee of their desired program. International (F-1) students should meet the minimum requirements before applying:
- Have earned a degree or diploma that CI considers to be the equivalent to a U.S. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Applicants who have a 3-year degree should email international@csuci.edu before applying for advice.
- Have attained a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale) in all units attempted as an undergraduate or have attained a minimum GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted. Certain programs may have stricter requirements regarding academic preparation and may require a higher GPA. For questions about grade conversion to the 4.0 scale please contact us.
- Must be in good standing at the last institution attended.
- Approval of the graduate admission committee for desired program. If you meet the minimum requirements, your application will be reviewed by the committee. The committee may require more academic preparation than the minimum requirements. Applicants should have a degree in a similar field of desired program or have taken approved foundation classes to prepare them for their desired program. Please note that repeating a degree you have already earned is not allowed (e.g. Applicants who already have an MBA, should not apply for a 2nd MBA)

Acceptable English Proficiency Exams
- TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language with a score of 80 on the Internet Based Test (ETS code 0236)
- IELTS – International English Language Test System with an overall band score of 6.5
- PTE - Pearson's Test of English score of 56
- Duolingo English Test score of 105 (Request Official Duolingo score)
* It is not necessary to submit an English proficiency exam if you have earned a bachelor's degree in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Malta, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. If you graduated high school and attended at least three years at a high school located in one of these countries the English proficiency exam may be waived. See the FAQ page for more information about waivers.
International Graduate Admission Documents
The following documents are required. The templates below are examples. Applicants may use the templates below or use their own formats.
- Please submit an application and $70.00 application fee at the Cal Sate Apply website.
- Statement of Purpose (500-600 word essay) summarizing professional experience, career objectives, and reason for pursuing your desired graduate program.
- Current Resume
- Two Letters of Recommendation (from academic or professional setting). Standard letters of recommendation also accepted.
- One set of unofficial transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. (Official transcripts are required after admission and required to receive your I-20 document).
- GRE/GMAT is waived for MS Biotechnology & Bioinformatics, MS Computer Science and MS in Mathematics. See below for MBA and Dual Program MS Biotech/MBA requirements.

Additional Requirements for MBA & Dual Program
- Two years of full-time work experience required for applicants to MBA and applicants to the Dual Biotech/MBA Program.
- MBA Applicants should hold a degree in business, a field related to business or completion of business foundation classes (if degree is in a field other than business, email international@csuci.edu for advice)
- Minimum 2.75 GPA
- Dual Biotech/MBA Program applicants should have a degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Pharmacy or related field (if degree is in a field other than these subjects, email international@csuci.edu for advice)
- GMAT (code ZMG – GJ – 0) or GRE (ETS code 4091) is required unless you qualify for a waiver*. Competitive GMAT or GRE is required for admission and test score reports must be within the past 5 years of the semester of application.
*GMAT/GRE may be waived for MBA for:
- Applicants with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Applicants with five or more years of professional experience that reflects an increasing level of responsibility
- Students who complete the Certificate of Business (MBA Foundations courses offered online) at CSUCI with a GPA of 3.5 or higher

Students pay tuition and fees each semester. We offer payment plans of 3 payments per semester
* The CSU makes every effort to keep student costs to a minimum, but fees are subject to change at anytime.
** Amount of units depends on the emphasis the student chooses.
*** Biotech lab fees: $125 per course. Courses with lab fee: Bio 502, 505, 510, 597
**** MBA students who have not completed a class in American business law will be required to complete an additional 3 units.
Documents Required for I-20 Document
(Required After admission)
A non-refundable deposit of $250 is required to accept the offer. The deposit will be applied towards the first semester tuition and fees. Instructions for payment will be sent with admission letter.
- Submit the Affidavit of Financial Support - Affidavit of Financial Support (PDF, 323KB) You must show how you will pay all educational, living and travel costs while you study in the U.S.
- Submit a bank statement. The statement should be on bank letterhead and include the date, name of the account holder and the available balance. If a student has a sponsor (someone providing financial support) the sponsor's bank statement will suffice. Both the student and sponsor must sign the affidavit form.
- Submit a copy of the biographical page (page with picture) of the student's passport
