The Black Studies program is an interdisciplinary field that explores the histories, cultures, and contributions of people of African descent across the globe.

Through experiential and community-engaged learning, students actively connect theory to practice, engaging with real-world issues, collaborating with communities, and developing work that reflects both academic rigor and social relevance. Whether through research, creative projects, or public scholarship, students are encouraged to explore how knowledge can be applied to address contemporary challenges.

At its core, Black Studies is about understanding the self in relation to the world. Students gain a deep awareness of the historical, economic, political, and social forces that shape Black life, while also engaging contemporary theories of Blackness that challenge, expand, and reimagine these narratives. This process cultivates critical thinking, cultural fluency, and a nuanced understanding of identity in a global context.
