Where can I find information on services for Veterans and Dependents at CSUCI?

Visit the Veteran Affairs webpage for information; including information on Channel Islands' Student Veterans Organization, Federal VA Benefits, the Cal Vet Fee Waiver, etc.

Are Veterans expected to meet the same application deadlines as all other students?

Yes. Applications must be submitted within the established time period:

  • For fall admissions, applications are accepted between October 1 and November 30, only.
  • For spring admissions, applications are accepted between August 1 and August 31, only.
  • Applications must be submitted online at Cal Sate Apply.
  • Active-duty personnel who are deployed and unable to complete the admissions application by the established deadline may receive an extension on applying for fall or spring terms by contacting the Admissions Office (admissions@csuci.edu).

What are the minimum admission requirements for CSU Channel Islands?

  • Have earned a minimum of 60 semester transferable units or 90 quarter units, AND
  • Have earned a minimum 2.0 GPA, AND
  • Be in good standing (e.g., eligible to re-enroll) at the last institution attended, AND
  • Completion of the Golden Four courses with a grade of C- or better:
    • A1. Oral Communication
    • A2. Written Communication
    • A3. Critical Thinking
    • B4. Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning
  • Information provided on the application is used to determine whether a student is initially qualified for admission to CSU Channel Islands. The automated system will deny admission to those who do not appear to meet the above requirements.

When must admission requirements be met in order to apply?

  • Fall applications are open to those students who will have completed all the admissions requirements by the end of the summer term (prior to fall enrollment at CI).
  • Spring applications are open to those students who will have completed all the admissions requirements by the end of the fall semester (prior to spring enrollment at CI).

Will CSU Channel Islands make any exceptions for eligible veterans or active-duty service members that do not meet the above-stated admission requirements?

The Admissions Appeals Committee will consider exceptions as part of its stated Appeals Procedure. Criteria for consideration include the following:

  • The applicant must submit a written Request for Admissions Appeal within 15-business days of the denial notice. Information regarding the Admissions Appeal process can be found in the denial letter and at the Denied Students web page.
  • The applicant must attach the following documents to his or her Request for an Admissions Appeal:
    • Official transcript(s) with all courses attempted AND
    • Documents that identify the applicant as an eligible veteran or active-duty service member (DD 214)
  • The applicant’s official transcript(s) must demonstrate his or her readiness for a four-year environment in general and likelihood of success at CSU Channel Islands in particular. This will typically involve having completed the following requirements by the above-stated deadline (see When must admission requirements be met in order to apply?).
    • Completion of the A2 requirement (Written Communication), AND
    • Completion of the A3 requirement (Critical Thinking), AND
    • Completion of the B4 requirement (Mathematics/Quantitative Reasoning), AND
