Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Minor in Black Studies, a student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an interdisciplinary understanding of the variety of lives, experiences, knowledges, values, and conditions of peoples of African descent across time and place
  • Analyze the ways in which people of African descent have constructed and interpreted their own lives and experiences
  • Analyze the varied experiences of people of African descent and toward greater freedom and justice
  • Develop integrative and intersectional critical inquiry into personal, societal, and/or cultural beliefs and practices especially around issues of social differences or injustice as relate to engaging perspectives from people of African descent
  • Apply knowledge to develop actions that value diversity and social justice, accounting for differences including race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and age and their roles in the human community
