UNIV 392 International Experience Courses

Thank you for your excitement and dedication of time and resources to help facilitate an unforgettable international experience for our students. Short-Term Travel Study Abroad courses provide opportunities for students to earn credit for short-term travel and study in a country outside the US, where the student is immersed in a foreign culture. Faculty that wish to take students abroad should apply for UNIV392 approval.

UNIV 392 Proposals for spring 2024 and summer 2024 are being accepted. The deadline for UNIV 392 proposals for spring 2024 and summer 2024 is March 10, 2023

Preparing for student presentations

A requirement of the IRA award and the Center for International Affairs (CIA) for UNIV 392 courses includes a presentation about the course and course travel. This is often done with a Poster Presentation. Please refer to the Teaching and Learning Innovations' Quick-Start Guide for posters.

The Center for International Affairs (CIA) Coordinator, Jeannette Edwards can assist with any questions or concerns you or your students may have in regards to the poster sessions.

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) COIL

Information for 2024-2025  COIL Workshops

Dear colleagues,
As Faculty Director of the Center for Global Engagement, I would like to offer faculty the opportunity to consider adding virtual exchange (VE)/collaborative online international learning (COIL) component to your teaching. With you, I hope we can begin to build a community of practice around virtual exchange. I am completing the Stevens Initiative Virtual Education Academy and have much to share! Here is a summary of opportunities for you, with more details below:
1. Brief overview and Q&A during University Hour, Oct 29, 12-1 in 2381 Madera Hall.
 
2. Two benefits from our campus membership in the State University of New York (SUNY) COIL network:
  • Attend one of their workshops (from the beginner to the advanced level)
    • The fee is $300, paid by the CGE for up to 6 faculty (see below)
  • Access to occasional Partnership Fairs and other ways of finding international partners
    • The next one is in November 12 (sign up needed—see link below)
3. Stipends to develop a VE/COIL component of an existing course, $500 for up to four faculty (see link below)

The CSU International Programs Resident Director

Next Applications to open: International Programs (2025-2026) Resident Directors
Faculty Development opportunity from CSU International Programs

They will be seeking applications for the position of Resident Director (Academic year 2025-2026) at the CSU study centers in France, Italy and Spain. The programs in these locations have been fortunate to have CSU faculty lead our students in their study abroad experience. At CSUCI, Antonio Jimenez Jimenez (Spain), Irina Costache (Italy), and Luda Popenhagen (France, now retired) have all served. It would be great to keep up the legacy!
