CSUCI has cancelled classes for Thursday, Dec. 7. However, the main campus in Camarillo will reopen with normal operating hours as well as the Thousand Oaks and Goleta locations. Employees will be expected to report to the campus as usual. The Broome Library will be open at 8 a.m. to accommodate students preparing for finals.

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 8:30 P.M.

CSUCI including the Thousand Oaks and Goleta campuses will be closed and all classes canceled for Wednesday, Dec. 6, with the exception of on-campus student housing and Islands Café.

We are closely monitoring the situation and assessing air quality and power fluctuations. Due to the continuing power outages and predictions that air quality will decrease around the campus tomorrow:

  • Faculty and staff should remain at home and will be granted administrative leave (with no deduct to personal hours accrued) due to the campus closure. However, employees who have been previously designated as “essential personnel” by their supervisor should report to the campus as instructed.
  • Students who live on campus should limit their outdoor exposure and follow directions as provided by the RA’s and the Housing & Residential Education staff. Housing Village front desks will be open and will respond to student.housing@csuci.edu throughout the day.

The devastating and ongoing fires in our community have touched us all and will continue to do so moving forward. We are working on many fronts to respond directly to those members of our campus community who have been impacted by the fires and are experiencing personal losses.

Updated information regarding shelters, mandatory and voluntary fire evacuation areas, school and road closures can be found at: http://readyventuracounty.org/

We will continue to evaluate the complex conditions and make an assessment about University operations for Thursday as more information becomes available. We will continue to provide updates via CSUCI Alert, at www.csuci.edu and on our emergency hotline at 805-437-3911.

Thank you and remain safe.

Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 3:45 P.M.

We have received notice of new power outages in the County.  As a result, although our campus will remain open for staff and residential students, we will be canceling classes this evening after 4 p.m. to assess overall power stabilization.

We anticipate that classes will resume as scheduled tomorrow morning, but will notify you as more information becomes available.  Stay safe.

Dear Campus Community:

Since very late last night, we have been reaching out to faculty, staff, and students from our campus who have been impacted by the devastating fires in Ventura, Santa Paula and Ojai.  We have heard from many who have been forced to evacuate and several others who have lost their homes.  Our hearts break for those members of our community who have been hit by this tragedy and we ask that if you or any of your staff, faculty or student colleagues have been affected by the fires, that you contact my office at 805-437-8410, so we can assess the full impact of the fires and the needs of our CSUCI community.

The circumstances regarding the fires are dynamic and we will continue to monitor the shifting and ever-changing conditions. We do not anticipate a campus closure at this time, but we have asked that faculty remain flexible in meeting student needs and that supervisors remain flexible with employees.  While we want to ensure that students have the ability to effectively complete their studies, your health and safety will always be our number one priority.

As the fires continue to deeply impact our community, we are keeping everyone in our thoughts, and we stand ready to support and assist in any way that we can.

As conditions change, we will be in contact with updated information.

Sincerely,

Erika D. Beck

President

We are continuing to carefully monitor the air quality on campus being caused by the fires in Ventura and LA County. However, CSUCI is not currently threatened by these fires. We continue to take precautions for the health and welfare of students, staff and faculty, thus some outdoor activities may be cancelled.

The smoke from these fires will affect each of us in different ways, so please listen to your body and stay indoors as much as possible. The health and safety of all students, faculty and staff remains the University’s top priority. We encourage you to take care of your health and to speak with your appropriate administrator or professor should you begin to feel ill.

We have many faculty, staff and students who live in the Ventura and Santa Paula areas impacted by the Thomas fire. We are especially saddened by the news of those who have lost their homes and we will continue to send our thoughts and concerns for everyone’s well-being and safety and that of their families. We will continue to reach out to those families to extend our support.

Below is a list of resources for anyone affected by the fire:
