December 2017 fires FAQs

Dec. 10, 2017

Dear Campus Community:

The main CSU Channel Islands and Thousand Oaks campuses will be open the week of Dec. 11 and final exams will take place as scheduled. Students directly impacted by the fires will be accommodated as needed and those students should contact their instructors for options.

The Goleta campus will remain closed next week due to the fires and poor air quality. Students in our Goleta programs will receive emails from their instructors with specific instructions for final exams.

The Broome Library is open today, Sunday, Dec. 10 and will remain open 24 hours through Thursday midnight to accommodate students preparing for finals.

A list of frequently asked questions related to the fires are available on our website by clicking on the “read more” link found on the yellow banner at the top of the website. Again, visit www.csuci.edu

Air quality on the CSUCI campus is predicted to improve, while temperatures are predicted to rise. To promote comfortable temperatures indoors, we recommend that students who live on campus close windows and blinds during the day to keep the heat out and open windows at night to allow cool air in. However, please do not open windows if it appears or smells smoky outside.

University employees will be expected to report to the Camarillo or Thousand Oaks campuses per their normal work schedule. Goleta staff should remain at home and will be granted administrative leave with no deduct to personal accrued hours.

We will continue to monitor conditions and notify the campus of any new developments via CSUCI Alert, our emergency hotline at 805-437-3911, or on our website at www.csuci.edu.

Please exercise good judgment with regards to road closures and remain safe. Thank you.
