Preparing High School Students

EAP focuses on determining the CSU-level English and math readiness of public high school students. The EAP test is part of the California Assessment for Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) given during the second semester of junior year in high school. The tests are based on CSU placement standards and are intended to provide information about your readiness to compete at the CSU level. There are 4 possible levels you can receive:

  1. Standards Exceeded
  2. Standards Met
  3. Standards Nearly Met
  4. Standards Not Met

Test results can be found on the back of the CAASPP report. The CAASPP report is mailed to students home and addressed to parent and/or guardian during the summer prior to the start of senior year.

All first-year college students must complete the CSU General Education (GE) requirements to graduate from the CSU. Area A2 (written communication) and Area B4 (math/QR) are part of the CSU GE requirements. To better understand how students test scores and courswork will impact them in college, please take a look at EAP's Academic Preparation Brochure.

Please note: Counselors, remind students to release scores to the CSU when taking the test. They will be prompted to release scores to the California State University, the California Community College, or both. The CSU encourages students to release their scores to both the CSU and the CCC.
