Extended University and International Programs at CSU Channel Islands is thrilled to announce that Dr. Robin Mitchell and Dr. Ballesteros-Sola have been selected to participate in the International Faculty Partnership Seminar in Paris, France from June 16 to June 22, 2019. Sponsored by California State University, the mission of the seminar is to provide international experiences for faculty from across disciplines and campuses. From a pool of almost 40 applicants from 16 CSU campuses, Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Ballesteros-Sola were selected to represent CI.

The seminar will focus on exploring solutions to common challenges faced by both California and France. In an era of increasingly polarized dialogue, both Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Ballesteros-Sola are perfectly positioned to engage in conversations centered on interconnectedness. Dr. Mitchell has spent her professional career focused on issues of migration, multiculturalism, and gender politics, to name a few. As a 19th century French historian, she spent years combing through archives to better understand the people and places we study. She has lived abroad in France as a graduate student and is well versed in the nuances of French culture and society.

Both professors are advocates for study abroad, a field traditionally underrepresented by students and faculty of color. As a women of color in academia, Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Ballesteros-Sola know that access to international education is an issue of equity and see abroad experience as necessary to producing informed global citizens.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Mitchell and Dr. Ballesteros-Sola on these incredible accomplishments. For questions about study abroad opportunities at CI, please visit http://go.csuci.edu/study-abroad.
