vice president for university advancement mario j. de los cobos

Vice President for University Advancement Mario J. de los Cobos, known to many as “Marty” will retire from his post at the University effective Dec. 31, 2007. He has been with the University since 2002.

During the past five years, de los Cobos has played a key role in many of the University’s milestones including the passage of state Proposition 1D, which brought nearly $62 million to CSUCI for infrastructure improvements; the creation of the University’s Alumni & Friends Association; the Business & Technology Partnership; and helping to secure funding to launch CSUCI’s nursing program.

“The team effort the University made to gain the resounding support for Prop. 1D from the community members in Ventura County is one of the highlights of my time here,” said de los Cobos. “It’s the relationships and support from students, campus colleagues and from community members and friends of the University that I will miss most.”

Prior to his work at CSUCI, de los Cobos had a 33-year career with the Southern California Gas Company. He retired in 1998 as the Central Coast Regional Public Affairs Manager.

“Marty’s legislative and public affairs experience has been a tremendous asset for the University,” said University President Richard R. Rush. “His good work and leadership will be missed.”

De los Cobos is a graduate of California State University Los Angeles, a graduate of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy, and formerly served as a Level One Reserve Police Officer for the City of Glendora for more than seven years. He is a lifetime resident of California. However, upon his retirement from the University, de los Cobos and his wife Eileen plan to relocate to Arizona.
