April 26, 2023 — CSUCI’s Computer Science department is partnering with Extended University and GBL Systems to offer free cloud-computing courses.

The Economic Development Collaborative is working with GBL and other regional partners to launch the Ventura County Digital Upskilling Training Program. GBL’s Amazon Web Services training is for workers living in Ventura County who want to increase their digital skills, earning power and competitiveness in the job market. The online, self-paced course requires six to eight hours per week. Participants can receive multiple AWS cloud credentials in six months. Graduates will receive career-services coaching covering interviews, resume-writing and placement.

Assembly Member Jacqui Irwin secured $5 million from the state budget to create the pilot program. Basic computer skills are increasingly needed in all industries, and people without digital skills are in danger of being left further behind as digitalization continues to expand. Without digital skills, people cannot search for and apply for jobs, expand their career opportunities, earn more money or enjoy the flexibility of working remotely. Also, as technology changes, current workers need more advanced digital skills and training to stay employed and advance in their careers.
