Jan. 22, 2024 - Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce that the National Science Foundation (via subaward from the University of Norte Dame) has awarded $18,295 in continued funding to Professor Lydia Dixon's project: “Investigating Cesarean Incisions as Predictors for the Reproduction of Inequality.”

This study examines when and how cesarean sections are conducted in Mexican hospitals and adds to scholarly understanding of obstetric violence by tracing connections between providers' decisions, patients' backgrounds, and structural constraints. The project builds on Professor Dixon's research trajectory related to women's health and obstetric violence in Mexico. Professor Dixon will use this research to continue to write and present on these topics, and to bring this research experience into her teaching.
