Photo of Blake Gillespie in a Chemistry lab.Feb. 24, 2023 — Associate Professor Blake Gillespie will present a Science Pub session on “Cooking Up Chemistry” on Monday, March 13, in Santa Barbara.

Organized by the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, the event will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Dargan’s Irish Pub & Restaurant at 18 E. Ortega St.

Gillespie, Chair of the Chemistry department, will lead an interactive evening of discussion and hands-on activities about fermented foods, flavor molecules and the microorganisms responsible for it all. A biochemist, Gillespie studies fermentation and protein structure.

Science Pub is a series of free science talks held on the second Monday of every month that are designed to quench adults’ thirst for knowledge. Tickets or reservations are not required, but early arrival is suggested to secure a seat.
