Oct. 21, 2022 - The opening reception for “The Cherie Nedderman Collection of California Art at CSUCI: Impressions and Dialogues” exhibition will be Thursday, Oct. 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Broome Library Art Gallery.
The exhibition celebrates the artistic value and educational benefits of the collection, which was donated to the University by the family of the Camarillo nurse it belonged to after she died in 2019. Nedderman had told her family that she wanted her collection to be in a place “where other people can enjoy it.” The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the introduction of the collection to the campus and the community.
The show’s paintings, some created more than 100 years ago, reveal the core of Nedderman’s collecting interest. Beyond the thematic cohesion, the paintings disclose the artists’ idiosyncratic views, diverse styles and unique palettes. The narrative of the show vividly evokes the beauty of California and discloses subtle visual affinities with our campus and its surroundings. This connection is further highlighted in “The Nedderman Collection of California Art in Dialogues with CSUCI Students,” an online project pairing works with paintings created by students.
Reservations for the free event can be made at this RSVP link.
The exhibition will continue through Feb. 3.
