"Sushi for the grandkids" mixed media art

Feb. 11, 2022 – Students are invited to attend “Live from the Field: Conservation Through Art & Science” on Monday, Feb. 14 from noon to 1 p.m. This 50-minute virtual event brings experts into the classroom and gives students a window into the process of scientific and creative inquiry.

Join us for an informal chat with researchers and artists contributing to the field of Conservation Biology in California, Florida, and Massachusetts. Find out who they are, how they got interested in their fields, and the questions and goals they address. The following researchers and artists from field stations across the country will share their experiences:

  • Hilary Swain, Director, Archbold Biological Station; with Deborah Mitchell, conservation artist & environmental advocate
  • Laura Ludwig, Marine Debris & Plastics Program Coordinator, Center for Coastal Studies; with Sarah Thornington, marine debris artist
  • Russell Bradley, Director, Santa Rosa Island Research Station, CSU Channel Islands; with Matt Furmanski, Professor of Art, CSU Channel Islands

This session will be moderated by Dustin Angell, Director of Education, Archbold Biological Station. Registration is required and a Zoom link will be provided upon registering. While geared toward undergraduate students who have taken at least one course in Biology, all are all welcome to attend.
