Feb. 26, 2024 - Welcome Eco-fashionistas! In honor of Earth Day, Metrolink will be hosting its first fashion competition showcasing sustainable fashion designed by students in Southern California. The best part? Metrolink wants YOU, the amazing students of Southern California, to express your passion for sustainability through fashion and creativity. We want to encourage students to think of ways they can alter recycled materials to create a unique piece that helps tell a story about who you are and what sustainability means to you.
Any student over the age of 16 who lives and attends school in a county served by Metrolink may participate (Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, and San Diego counties). All entries must be constructed 100% from recyclable or upcycled materials with the exception of materials used for construction and/or attachment. There are two categories to enter:
- Designs created with recycled textiles such as swatches, end-of-rolls, sample yardage, unsold clothing, clothing samples, or secondhand clothing.
- Designs created with recycled materials such as coffee filters, canvas or burlap bags, bubble wrap, product packaging, magazines, etc.
Design entries must be received no later than March 10 at 10 p.m. PST. Entries should be sent to CPPcontest@scrra.net. Selected finalists will be chosen by a panel of judges and invited to showcase their finished designs at the Metrolink Sustainable Fashion Show on Friday, April 19 at Union Station in Los Angeles.
