Guide for New Graduate Students

Confirm your intent to enroll by accepting or declining CSUCI's offer of admission through your My CI portal. This is a crucial first step to secure your spot. The login information will be sent to the email you used to submit your Cal State Apply application.

Once you have accepted your offer, it is important to review the Terms and Conditions of Admission. Familiarize yourself with these guidelines to ensure you remain in compliance with university policies.

Keep your personal information updated on your MyCI Portal.To ensure you receive all critical communications, please add admissions@csuci.edu and regularly check your CSUCI email for important updates and deadlines.

Each graduate program at CSUCI has a dedicated Graduate Program Advisor or Coordinator. Some of the programs require all admitted students to schedule a meeting with the program coordinator. This individual is your primary point of contact for program-specific questions during the enrollment process and will be instrumental in helping you develop your Formal Study Plan for your degree during your first semester. If you haven't already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application as soon as possible. Be sure to list CSUCI (Federal School Code: 0039803). File by the March 2 priority deadline to maximize your eligibility for grants, loans, and scholarship opportunities. Explore the various types of aid offered to graduate students on the CSUCI Financial Aid website, as some may require additional applications (e.g., via AcademicWorks).

Understand the financial commitment of your graduate education by reviewing the Estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) available on the Cost and Financial Aid website. This comprehensive breakdown includes not only tuition and fees but also estimates for living expenses, books, supplies, transportation, and personal costs.

CSUCI offers limited on-campus housing primarily for undergraduate students. Graduate students typically secure off-campus housing. Housing & Residential Education website provide resources and guidance to assist you with your search for off-campus living and understanding renter responsibilities.

CSUCI requires official transcripts from all previously attended institutions where you earned a degree or completed coursework relevant to your admission. These transcripts must include your degree conferral date and should be submitted as soon as possible after your acceptance. You will be notified if any other specific documents are required for your enrollment.

Your program's specific process for class registration may vary. Please consult with your Graduate Program Advisor/Coordinator for detailed instructions on how to register for your first semester's courses and for any program-specific questions you may have.

CSUCI hosts Graduate Student Orientation events to welcome new students and provide essential information for a successful academic journey. These orientations often cover academic expectations, campus resources, and degree completion pathways. Look for information from your specific program regarding orientation dates and registration.

California law mandates that every student attending a CSU campus be classified as either a California resident or a nonresident for tuition purposes. This residency classification directly impacts your tuition fees, as nonresident students pay additional per-unit charges each semester. Review the residency requirements on the Registrar’s Office website.

You can view your student account information and manage payments through the myCI Portal via the Student Center. CSUCI does not send paper invoices; it is your responsibility to regularly monitor your account online. Information on payment methods, including the Tuition Installment Payment Plan (TIPP). It is a valuable option that allows students who are in good financial standing with the university to pay for their tuition in installments without incurring any interest.
