Purpose
The purpose of Disability Accommodations and Support Services (DASS) is to encourage our diverse learning community in and beyond the classroom, promoting inclusion, academic success, personal development, and self-advocacy skills that will empower and support students with disabilities so that they can participate fully in, and benefit equitably from, the University experience to realize their academic and personal potential.
Responsibility
DASS is designated by the California State University to obtain, review, and maintain records of a student’s disability as they pertain to classroom accommodations. DASS offers accommodations and resources for students who choose to identify their disability to the University, provide verifying documentation, and register for services. Academic accommodations are provided based on disability-related needs under sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Aims
Aim 1: To approve accommodations that will help students overcome barriers and reduce the impact of disability on the University experience.
Aim 2: To promote positivity and awareness about the needs of students with disabilities among students, faculty, staff, administration, and the surrounding community.
Objectives
Objective 1: To provide excellent service to all students, employees, and campus guests who work with DASS.
Objective 2: To support and assist students with disabilities from admission to graduation.
Objective 3: To positively engage with campus partners and community stakeholders, providing outreach and education that promotes awareness of disability, accessibility, and universal design.
