Completing First Year Writing
All incoming freshmen are required to complete their First Year Writing course(s) by the end of their first year. The first year of writing at CI will allow students to satisfy the General Education: 1A Written Communication requirement. Note: The GE: 1A requirement must be completed with a C- or higher.
Viewing you Written Communication Status
- Navigate to myCI > CI Records
- From your Student Dashboard navigate to Academics
- In the Academics Dropdown select Milestones
In the milestones, is where you will find your Written Communication status. You will see your milestones as shown in the following screenshot.
Please reference the charts below to view the different statuses and what this means for you.

| Fulfilled GE 1A Requirements | You have completed the General Education 1A Written Communication requirement. |
| Placement in a GE 1A Course | You must enroll in a General Education 1A Written Communication course during your first year. Learn more about selecting the right option for you on the Composition Program webpage. |
| GE 1A Course with Support | You must enroll in a General Education 1A Written Communication course during your first year. Learn more about selecting the right option for you on the Composition Program webpage. |
