CSU Channel Islands Retiree Association
Article I — Membership:
- All retirees of California State University Channel Islands (CI) and its auxiliaries are eligible for membership in the CSU Channel Islands Retiree Association (referred to hereafter as the Association).
- The Association is affiliated with, and all retirees are eligible for, membership in the state-wide association, California State University Emeritus, Retired Faculty and Staff Association (CSU ERFSA).
- CI retirees become members of the Association upon paid membership in CSU ERFSA.
- The Association is funded from two sources: 1) partial rebates of CSU ERFSA membership dues paid by members who belong to the statewide association, and 2) voluntary contributions made through the CSU Channel Islands Foundation.
- All members with current paid membership in CSU ERFSA are eligible to vote on matters relating to by-laws, the election of officers of the organization, and to serve as officers of the organization.
Article II — Purposes:
- To help retired faculty and staff maintain a continuing and fruitful association with the university;
- To provide social and educational programs and opportunities for retired faculty and staff.
- To promote and protect the rights of retired faculty and staff;
- To work for the improvement of the retirement program at the university;
- To inform members of retirement and medical benefits through affiliation with the statewide organization, CSU ERFSA; and
- To provide members with volunteer and philanthropic opportunities in support of students, faculty, staff, and retirees of the campus.
Article III — Officers and Executive Committee:
- The officers of the Association will include a president, secretary, and treasurer.
- The officers serve for a one-year term or until their successors have been duly elected. The term for each officer begins July 1.
- Officers for the succeeding year will be elected by a majority vote of members participating at the spring meeting each year. Members unable to attend the meeting may participate and vote electronically.

- The executive committee includes the president, the secretary, the treasurer, in addition to the chairs of each committee established by the Association.
- A majority of members of the executive committee represents a quorum and is required for any actions or decisions of the executive committee.
- Vacancies occurring between annual meetings shall be filled by the Executive Committee, with such appointees serving until the expiration of the term being filled.
- Meetings of the Executive Committee shall be open to all members of the Association.
- The University may designate a representative to the Association who may attend all meetings, including the those of the Executive Committee.
Article IV — Duties of the Officers:
- The president serves as the principal officer, presides at all meetings, serves as ex-officio member of all committees, serves as the primary representative of the Association to the University, and attends the council meetings of CSU-ERFA. If the president is unable to participate in University or CSU ERFSA activities, those duties may be delegated temporarily to another member.
- The secretary records minutes of the meetings, provides notification of meetings, presides in the absence of the president, and is responsible for other correspondence to members.
- The treasurer assists with the collection of dues and other funds, updates the executive committee on the finances of the Association and handles all fiscal affairs.
Article V — Annual Meeting:
The annual meeting will be held in the spring of each year and will be announced to members at least two weeks in advance. The Executive Committee may call additional membership meetings as needed to address items of business requiring input or action by the general membership. Fifty percent of the paid members of the association represent a quorum for the annual meeting. Members unable to attend the meeting may participate in and vote electronically using an application such as Zoom. Information about electronic access will be made available to members at least two weeks in advance.
Article VI — Committees:
The executive committee is a permanent standing committee of the Association and consists of the officers plus the chairs of any committee established by the Association. Other committees may include, but are not limited to, the following based on the needs of the Association as determined by the executive committee:
- Retired faculty and staff rights and benefits
- University relations (including coordination with entities such as Academic Senate and Staff Council)
- Membership recruitment
- Social and educational programs
- Any others agreed upon by the Association membership
Article VII — Method of Amending Bylaws
Proposed amendments to these bylaws may be presented to the membership by (1) majority vote of the Executive Committee or by (2) a petition submitted to the Secretary for presentation to the members, such petition to be signed by at least 10 percent of the members. The Secretary must distribute proposed amendments to all members at least two weeks before being acted upon. Amendments shall be adopted if approved by a simple majority of those voting at the Annual Business Meeting. Members unable to attend the meeting may vote electronically.
