What is the Over 60 Program?

The Over 60 Program is a fee waiver program available to qualified persons who are California residents, and are sixty (60) years of age or older. The program is designed to encourage this constituency group to enroll in regular session undergraduate level courses on a space available basis. The program is only open to undergraduate, stateside supported courses. 2nd Bachelors Degrees, Graduate programs, Credential programs and Extended University programs are not eligible for this fee waiver.

Who is eligible?

Students who are sixty (60) years of age or older, have been a California resident for at least one year, and who are already enrolled or eligible to enroll in classes at CSU Channel Islands.

How do I qualify?

New applicants to the University are required to meet minimum CSU admission eligibility requirements before they are eligible for the Over 60 Program. To apply to the University, please visit www.calstate.edu/apply. Currently enrolled students are eligible to apply for the over 60 fee waiver program.

How do I enroll in the Over 60 program?

Current CSUCI students who are in good academic standing can submit the Student Fee Waiver Request – Over 60 Program form (PDF, 277KB) to the Student Business Services department in order to be approved for the program. New students must apply to the University through Cal Sate Apply and meet the minimum CSU Admission requirements. Once admitted to the University, new students submit a Student Fee Waiver Request – Over 60 Program form (PDF, 277KB) to the Student Business Services department.

Do I need to submit the Over 60 Waiver Request Form by any specific deadlines?

Yes. New students should submit the form by May 1st for the Fall semester, and November 1st for the Spring semester. Current students should submit the form by April 1st for the Fall semester, and November 1st for the Spring semester.

Will I have priority enrollment?

No. Students enrolled in the Over 60 Program will be assigned the last registration window in each registration time period. This means that you will register after all other students have registered and the availability of classes will be limited.

Do I have to pursue a degree?

The Over 60 Program is available to any CSUCI student who has an interest in available CSUCI courses for which the student is academically prepared. Applicants will need to have declared a major. Students enroll in regular session undergraduate level courses on a space available basis. There are no special classes limited to or designed for persons enrolled. The program is only open to undergraduate, stateside supported courses. Graduate programs, Credential programs and Extended University programs are not eligible for this fee waiver.

Do I have to enroll in the Over 60 program every semester?

No. Participation in the 60 plus program does not need to be renewed each semester, unless there is a break in enrollment in University classes. Continuing students remain enrolled in the program. If students would like to exit the program, they must submit written notification to the Student Business Services department. Students must follow university policy for any leave of absence from CSUCI.

**NOTE: Students are responsible for paying full costs associated with books parking, lab/supply fees, and any other student fees not covered through the waiver.

What other programs are available for seniors?

Seniors can also take classes through the Ocher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). For more information about OLLI class offerings and admission, please contact Extended University at 805-437-2748 or email Michael Trainor at michael.trainor747@csuci.edu. OLLI classes are not eligible for the fee waiver.
