805-437-3667   L.Roy Spence proudly serves as the Coordinator of the Black Cultural Center at California State University of Channel Islands. L.Roy is dedicated to the holistic development of Black students, uplifting them to recognize their sovereignty amidst adversity and oppressive institutional systems.    L.Roy was born and raised on Chumash Land in Oxnard, CA and maintains a deep connection to their ancestral roots in Belize, St. Vincent, and Mexico. As a proud first-generation college graduate, they earned a B.A. in Communication with an emphasis on race, class, and gender studies from the University of Southern California. L.Roy's professional background beautifully blends their love for education, transformative justice, and the natural world. Throughout their career, L.Roy has dedicated themselves to building community, fostering inclusivity, and advocating for equity and justice. They are committed to keeping humanity and liberation at the center of their work which has shaped their holistic approach to supporting students.
