Laboratory Hazard Assessment (LHAT)

An assessment tool that helps identify and manage hazards in academic laboratories, shops, and studios. Used by Principal Investigators (PIs), Instructional Support Technicians, and lab personnel, it assesses chemical, biological, and physical risks and provides tailored safety measures and PPE recommendations.

Laboratory Hazard Assessments must be re-certified annually and when new hazards are introduced such as new materials, equipment, or procedures.

Inspect

A checklist tool used to document safety inspections across campus laboratories, shops, and other high-risk areas. It allows EHS staff and authorized users to conduct inspections, record findings, assign corrective actions, and track resolution progress in real time. The module supports consistent documentation, improves communication between departments, and ensures timely follow-up on safety issues.

Inspections for all laboratory, shop, studio, and research spaces must be completed by the 4th week of the Fall and Spring semesters. All findings have 30 days to be corrected once the inspection report is submitted. If the correction will take more than 30 days, an action plan with specific dates and/or work order progress must be created.

Chemicals

A centralized system used to manage chemical inventory in laboratories, shops, studios and other campus facilities. This tool enables users to track the acquisition, storage, and use of hazardous materials, ensuring accurate, real-time inventory management and compliance with regulatory requirements. It supports container tracking, chemical search by name or CAS #, integration with safety data sheets (SDS), first aid requirements, storage requirements, compatibility considerations, etc., making it easier to identify and assess chemical hazards.

Chemical inventories must be re-certified annually to maintain accuracy and to identify chemicals and materials no longer needed or expired.
