Alternative Transportation To and From Campus

California State University Channel Islands Alternative Transportation Program is a tremendous resource for students, faculty and staff looking for alternate ways to commute to and from campus. We support the Ventura County Transportation Commission's initiatives which promote alternatives to driving alone including carpooling, taking local transit, car sharing, bicycling and walking. In addition, we can provide simple and accessible resources for ride matching for students, faculty and staff. Each of these alternatives offers wonderful benefits to the user, as well as our campus community and our environment!

Carpool

CARPOOL WITH CLASSMATES AND COLLEAGUES

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to form carpools to and from campus for their daily commute. Parking for carpoolers is made easier with the option to purchase one parking permit for two up to four vehicles being used in the carpool each semester.

PERMITS: Carpoolers must purchase their permit from Police and Parking Services Customer Service in Placer Hall. When completing the permit application, each member of the carpool will provide their vehicle information which ties one permit number to each of the vehicles listed. Think about it . . . up to four commuters, up to four vehicles, with one permit. The only requirement is that the permit must be properly displayed at all times on the carpool vehicle being driven to and parked on campus or it is subject to citation.

MEETING LOCATIONS: Carpoolers are encouraged to find a common meeting location if they do not live within reasonable proximity of one another. Great places to meet and ride together are the Park and Ride lots located on Las Posas Road and Ventura Boulevard (across from the Target shopping center) and on Santa Rosa Road near the southbound 101 freeway entrance (across from the Mobil gas station).

WALK TO CAMPUS

Walking is good for your brain. In a study on walking and cognitive function, researchers found that those who walked the equivalent of an easy pace at least 1.5 hours per week had significantly better cognitive function and less cognitive decline than people who walked less than 40 minutes per week. It's good for your health. It's great for the environment, and you never have to look for a parking space. Walking to campus from the Residence Halls or the University Glen Community not only improves your health – all of your friends and colleagues will envy your ten minute commute!
