The Excellence Award

The Excellence Award recognizes DBFA staff members who have demonstrated excellence in their service to the University. Through their exemplary professionalism and achievements, they have supported their colleagues in advancing the mission and goals of the University.

This award is given for exhibiting excellence in many, if not all, of the following attributes: Integrity, Respect, Superior Effort, Commitment to Service, Enriched Communication, Commitment to Inclusive Excellence, Diversity, Collegiality. Consider the following criteria when evaluating an individual for nomination.

  • Exhibits leadership skills in the conduct or improvement of Division and University programs, services or operations
  • Delivers distinguished service and meritorious contributions within the Division and/or the University
  • Demonstrates exemplary performance of Operational Excellence over and above assigned duties
  • Demonstrates initiative, creativity, and resourcefulness in their work
  • Established record of significant achievement sustained over a period or time
  • Actively builds positive relationships with others who may hold diverse viewpoints from their own
  • Communicates in clear, constructive ways that recognize the human dignity and worth of all members on the campus community
  • Exhibits the highest standards of professionalism, commitment, integrity, and accountability in their work
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the well-being of colleagues by supporting their needs and professional development, and contributing significantly to the development of a positive, respectful work environment
  • Offers consistent outstanding customer service, helpful and friendly assistance, contributes to positive relations, and serves as a model to others
  • Acts with direct, explicit, and intentional efforts to raise awareness about racial and social justice
  • Makes an intentional effort to make explicit and implicit biases visible

The Efficiency Award

The Efficiency Award recognizes DBFA staff members who have demonstrated skill in finding, recommending, promoting, and executing the betterment of the processes for the department or University. Through their exemplary efforts and achievements, they have supported their colleagues in advancing the mission and goals of the University through efficiency.

This award is given for achieving efficiency utilizing many, if not all, of the following attributes: Knowledge, Resourcefulness, Superior Effort, Commitment to Efficient Processes, Sustainability, Equity. Consider the following criteria when evaluating an individual for nomination.

  • Uses empirically based decision making as a means of improving quality, consistency, speed, and cost of services
  • Develops innovative and/or creative ideas that improve the efficiency and/or effectiveness of a unit or service
  • Shares extensive knowledge which contributes to the increased efficiency of a workplace system or process
  • Facilitates innovative and sustainable solutions to solve complex problems for better efficiency and LEAN operations
  • Acts with the intention of fostering inclusivity by ensuring that all voices, perspectives, and opinions are heard when considering solutions

The Collaboration & Teamwork Award

The Collaboration & Teamwork Award recognizes an individual, team or department within or outside of DBFA who demonstrates team-oriented cooperation, collaboration, and open communication to complete a project or achieve a goal. They delivered a significant benefit or value to a department, Division or the University as a whole. They worked toward a common goal while being supportive and motivational of others.

This award is given for exhibiting collaboration and teamwork in many, if not all, of the following attributes: Dedication, Willingness, Collaborative Spirit, Respect, Communication, Commitment to Inclusive Excellence, Diversity, Collegiality, Fun.  Consider the following criteria when evaluating an individual, team or department for nomination.

  • Creates an environment that promotes communication, trust, cooperation, and respect for differences
  • Delivers a significant benefit or value to a department, division or the University
  • Works toward a common goal while being supportive and motivational of others
  • Models a clear, constructive, and collaborative communication style that recognizes the human dignity and worth of all members of the campus community
  • Develops a partnership that seeks input and involvement of all stakeholders
  • Places team goals above personal goals
  • Fosters harmony, fairness, and awareness of the equal welfare of others, which contributes to a fun, positive work environment
  • Actively pursues divergent viewpoints to foster dialogue and promotes transparency and inclusive opportunities while working toward resolution

The Flying Dolphin Award

The Vice President's Flying Dolphin Award for Excellence in Service to the Division and University is awarded at the Vice President's discretion and is not open for nominations.
