A Life Changing Decision by Alexandria C.

My name is Alexandria and I am a psychology major, at California State University Channel Islands. Getting ready to go to college was quite intimidating for me. I knew it would be hard to be away from home, my twin sister, and that piles of school work were inevitable. I had no idea where I wanted to go to college, I just knew I wanted to go somewhere that I would love my campus and thrive in my academics.

During my time in grade school I was very involved with sports and extracurricular activities. When considering colleges, I wanted to continue to have the same well–rounded atmosphere with clubs and sports. One of the most motivating environments I can put myself in, is an institution with never ending support and school spirit. That is exactly what I found at CSUCI.

My first visit to the campus was for Admitted Dolphin Day...which was also my 18th birthday! I remember having butterflies in my stomach and tears in my eyes, knowing my entire life was about to change. The first thing I loved was the small, welcoming community and scenery that surrounded me. Coming from Los Angeles county I was used to the hustle and bustle of city life, so I enjoyed how serene it was here. The campus allowed me to feel at ease knowing I would have small classes, the opportunity to interact with my professors, and the ability to walk across campus in just 15 minutes. The intimate campus would allow me to thrive in my academics because I knew I would have that personal connection with staff and faculty.

There are also amazing opportunities that come with being so close to the coast. The research center on Santa Rosa Island was an extra incentive as to why I decided to enroll at CSUCI. The opportunity for undergraduate research as well as water sports at the CI Boating Center were really unique benefits that no other university had. This university has given me a chance to be successful in my academics, social life, and grow professionally as well through an on-campus job. I know attending CSU Channel Islands is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life.  A piece of my heart will definitely be left here when I graduate!
