Our Mission
To empower undergraduate students in achieving their academic, personal, and career goals through equitable, accurate, and student-centered advising. We promote a sense of belonging and responsibility by providing timely guidance, resources, and collaborative support that fosters persistence, retention, and on-time graduation.
Our Vision
To create a proactive and inclusive advising experience where every student is supported holistically and inspired to thrive. We strive to meet students where they are—academically and personally—connecting them with campus resources and cultivating lifelong skills for success in a diverse and dynamic community.
Advising Model
The advising model at CI is a partnership between the student, academic advisors,
and faculty. Academic Advisors assist students from New Student Academic Advising
& Course Registration to graduation. Advising employs a holistic approach when counseling
students so students can maximize their educational opportunities and make critical
decisions about their education, career, and life goals.
Students have assigned academic advisors by major, but faculty advisors are the experts in the major. For questions about major course substitutions, major
course selection, graduate school, and career exploration, see your faculty advisor.
Excellence in Academic Advising Program Review
In March 2024, CSU Channel Islands completed an eight-month Excellence in Academic Advising (EAA) Self-Study in partnership with NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. Grounded in NACADA’s Conditions of Excellence, this comprehensive, evidence-based review evaluated academic advising across nine nationally recognized conditions using institutional data, student and advisor surveys, faculty focus groups, and campus-wide collaboration. The resulting report identifies strengths, challenges, and strategic recommendations to guide the continued enhancement of a coordinated, equitable, and student-centered advising experience at CSUCI.
