Hello CSUCI! I am currently serving as a Graduate Intern in the Academic Advising Office. I am in my second year of the Masters in Counseling and College Student Personnel program at California Lutheran University.

My educational journey began at Ventura College, where I was a student-athlete and participated in student programs across campus. I later transferred to California Lutheran University, where I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

After taking time to work, volunteer, and focus on personal growth, I made the decision to return to school to pursue my graduate studies and continue developing both personally and professionally. As a first-generation Latinx student, my path through higher education hasn’t always been easy, but the support of my family, mentors, and campus community has made all the difference.

Outside of school and work, I enjoy spending time outdoors with friends, hiking, and swimming. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Academic Advising team, and I am excited to connect with all of you and hear your stories!

I was born and raised in Ventura, California to Mexican immigrant parents who instilled in me the values of hard work and dedication. After high school, I began my higher education journey at Santa Barbara City College and Ventura College before transferring to the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Sociology.

In 2020, I returned to school to pursue a Master’s in Education: Counseling and Student Personnel from California Lutheran University. My goal has always been to return to higher education—to give back to the very system that shaped my own path.

I’m passionate about working with students from marginalized communities, underserved populations, and, most importantly, individuals with disabilities. Education has always been a powerful driving force in my life, and I’m committed to helping students who may not always see college as an option realize that it absolutely is—regardless of their limitations.

I’m honored to be part of the Academic Counseling team at CSUCI as a Graduate intern, where I can combine my lived experience and academic training to advocate for and support our students.

Yaqueline is a proud alumna of CSUCI class of 2017. I am passionate about helping transfer students succeed at CSUCI. I currently work as the Transfer Success Counselor at CSUCI for Admissions and Recruitment, so I am happy that this internship experience will equip me to better serve transfer students and more. I understand the unique transitions that many adults face when deciding to return to school after time away, and I am committed to guiding all students through a process that honors their individual journeys. My goal is to help students make informed decisions that support both their academic and professional aspirations. I am completing my MS in College Counseling and Student Personnel Services in December 2025.
